Barrier-free accessibility
Due to the high standards required for the renovation and restoration of Haus Schulenburg Gera to its original condition, the house is unfortunately not barrier-free.
The following points should be noted when visiting the house by people with limited mobility, visual or hearing impairments and people with cognitive impairments
People with limited mobility
The entrance to Haus Schulenburg Gera is via a gate, the grounds are slightly sloping and the courtyard is paved with limestone. The cafeteria in the entrance area, located in the former coach house, is barrier-free. The associated toilets are located in the basement area of the former chauffeur’s flat and can only be reached via a 15-step staircase.
The various areas of the outside grounds, the terraces and the park are each accessible via short steps (2 – 5 steps). Access to the house itself is via 5-step sandstone staircases, at the main entrance without railings/handrails, in the house the hallway and the culturally and historically significant salons on the ground floor can be reached via a further 5 steps. The first floor, where most of the current exhibitions are located, can be accessed via 2 flights of stairs, each with 20 steps.
The area of the cabaret stage, which is located in the former cellar, can be accessed from the courtyard via a sandstone staircase with 10 steps, while the auditorium can be reached via the lowered foyer area with a further 7 steps down and back up again
There is no lift. There are plans to purchase or build ramps to enable people with limited mobility to negotiate the shorter flights of stairs.
