Letters, documents, and the friendly-artistic correspondence with his teacher Henry van de Velde, which he continued into the 1950s, show the situation of Thilo Schoder in his adopted country Norway. The photographer Jean Molitor visited the places of his activity and documented the current state of the buildings.

Henry van de Velde
Pioneer of the Bauhaus on the cross-roads of modernism

15.03.2019 to 15.03.2020

At hardly any other place can the creative power of Henry van de Velde (1863-1957) be better witnessed than in the Haus Schulenburg in Gera. The building, built in 1913/14 for textile manufacturer Paul Schulenburg, is a masterpiece. The exhibition documents – on the basis of littleknown testimonies – his artistic sources, his ideas of reform, and the found
ation of two art schools. It opens the view to his companions, as well as his complete oeuvre as an architect and universal designer.
